		<abstract>The main objective of this work is supplying data to analyze the processes of change in the surface flow dynamics in São José dos Campos town. The proposed methodology in the development of this paper is the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) for the attainment of characteristic parameters for an integration of the data to the hydrologic model of the Soil Conservation Service (SCS), from the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The method for estimating runoff, determines part of the precipitation that results in the runoff and its volume and distribution with the time. It has as main variable the runoff Curve Number (CN) that is estimated on the basis of soil, land cover informations and humidity condition. The Sartori et al., (2005b) classification suggested for brazilian soils was used to study the model, mapping the potential of pluvial water retention in the town.</abstract>
